Wise, formerly known as TransferWise, offers a low-cost way for you to send money from and to almost 160 countries. And this with some of the best exchange rates available. Wise was founded in 2011 by Taavet Hinrikus and Kristo Käärmann to resolve payment issues that people and businesses in different regions face.
The platform operates as a fast, reliable, and affordable online bank transfer service. And the core values of the company are centred on transparency, speed, and simplicity.
Their unique approach eliminates the middleman, allowing them to charge significantly less than their competition. One of its key features is the Wise fee calculator, which allows you to estimate the fees and charges you’ll have to pay without signing up.
You can also use their Wise Borderless card to receive your paycheck or pension and make utility, mortgage, and other payments. And you can use the card to withdraw cash from an ATM. It also comes with a Borderless Account-linked Wise Platinum Debit MasterCard.
However, the Wise Borderless card cannot be used to deposit money into an ATM or to make credit purchases. Unfortunately, currently, the Wise Borderless card account is not available in Canada.
Their platform offers various ways to transfer money. You can use Wise’s website and mobile app to transfer money to yourself, your family, and friends abroad. Payment options include a bank account, debit card, credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
The recipient, however, can only receive the money through the bank and within 1 – 2 business days. If a recipient cannot receive funds through a bank, some providers offer cash pickup locations where you can send funds instead of using a bank.
The amount of money you can send varies depending on the destination. It’s possible to transfer as little as $1 and as much as $15,000 to someone’s bank account via Wise.
With Wise, you can send and receive money in 40 different currencies. The best part is that they have a fixed service fee. This fee comprises a fixed cost and a percentage of the amount you send as a form of commission. Wise is always completely transparent about the fees they charge, and they’re always revealed to you before you send a transfer.
Payments to MasterCard debit cards have a fixed rate of 0.15% of the transfer amount applied. However, when making payment to a Visa Debit card, you’ll incur a fee at a rate of 0.30%.
On the other hand, payments to MasterCard Credit cards have a rate of 0.55% attached. And Visa debit card payments are subject to a rate of 0.75%. The cost of using a credit card varies based on the country and the currency you’re converting.
But Wise targets the mid-market rate, ensuring that you get the best possible exchange rates. This implies that the rate you see on Google or XE is the rate applied to your transfer.

Yes, it’s perfectly safe to use. The Financial Transactions Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) regulates Wise in Canada.
Unfortunately, Wise does not accept this type of payment or transfer method. You can only transfer money using a bank or wire transfer. Or you can use a Wise Borderless card if situated outside of Canada.
It can take up to two business days to reflect a transfer in the receiver’s bank account. However, the transfer speed is determined by several circumstances, including the country to which you are transferring or receiving money.
Making a transfer is easy. To begin, simply sign up with your name and email address. Wise will then ask for your address, contact information, and proof of identification. Once your identity is verified, you can facilitate the transfer.
Yes, whether you’re sending to your account or the account of your recipient, you’ll need a bank account. Your recipient, on the other hand, does not require a Wise account. All they need is a bank account.

Very easy to use, fast transfers, and good value. I’ve been using Wise for 5 years now. Very happy with the app and how easy it is to use. The money lands in the recipient’s account the same day which I like and the fees are great value for money in comparison to the fees you get charged from your bank for making transfers to overseas bank accounts. Highly recommend!
For me your service is brilliant, efficient and helps in my everyday running of my financial accounts. It transfers from the pound to euros effectively and in short manner of time, I would recommend your service to anyone, thank you all.
