What is NEAR?
The NEAR protocol is a distributed application platform that was developed specifically for the usage of internet-based applications. The network operates via a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus process, which uses a sharding technology called Nightshade. The use of Nightshade is intended to enable scalability as well as consistent transaction rates.
NEAR is the native token for the NEAR protocol, and it was released in the year 2020. The NEAR Protocol project aims to provide a platform that is easy to use and accessible to developers.
NEAR has included features such as human-readable account names, cryptographic wallet addresses, and the capability for new users to interact with decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts without needing a wallet to meet this purpose. Human-readable account names may be found in NEAR’s wallet.
NEAR is developed by a community group that goes by the name NEAR Collective. This group is responsible for the original code and for releasing updates. Additionally, the protocol has served as the foundation for some projects, including Flux and the non-fungible token (NFT) minting platform known as Mintbase.
Who Created NEAR?
Alex Skidanov and Illia Polosukhin are the founders of the NEAR protocol. Before that, Skidanov was previously a director of engineering at The database business MemSQL while employed Polosukhin worked at Google. Presently, Alexander Skidanov serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NEAR Protocol, while Illia Polosukhin serves as the Chief Technical Officer of NEAR Protocol.
The top venture capital companies Andreessen Horowitz and Pantera Capital, among others, have contributed more than $20 million to NEAR throughout various fundraising rounds. On April 22, 2020, NEAR Protocol launched its mainnet with 1 billion NEAR coins produced at genesis. Regarding the tokens in circulation, early-stage investors have purchased over 30% of the original supply of one billion NEAR tokens.
How Does NEAR Work?
The NEAR Protocol is a Layer1 blockchain designed to motivate a network of computers to run a platform that allows software developers to build and distribute decentralized apps.
The capacity of NEAR Protocol to scale is backed by several features, including a sharding solution (Nightshade) and Aurora, a solution for scaling Layer 2 Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Additionally, compatibility with Ethereum may be achieved via the use of the Rainbow Bridge component of the NEAR Protocol.
NEAR protocol aims to compete with existing Proof-of-Stake blockchains through its sharding mechanism, Nightshade. With sharding, each node in the blockchain only has to keep a fraction of the platform’s data in its memory. Sharding allows the blockchain to grow more effectively, resulting in higher transaction throughput and cheaper per-transaction costs.
Nightshade enables NEAR Protocol to maintain a single data chain while splitting the processing power needed among many “chunks.” Nodes are responsible for processing and adding these data pieces to the main chain. One of Nightshade’s key advantages is that its design reduces the number of security weak spots, as each node is solely accountable for its limited portions of the chain.
Aurora is a further strength of the NEAR protocol. Aurora was developed as a Layer 2 scaling solution for the NEAR Protocol and is geared at helping developers deploy Ethereum DApps on the NEAR network. Aurora was designed using the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), Ethereum’s scripting language, and a cross-chain bridge that allows programmers to connect their Ethereum smart contracts and assets efficiently.
Additionally, Aurora allows programmers to combine the well-known features of Ethereum with the cheap transaction costs and fast throughput of the NEAR Protocol. Another exciting feature that the NEAR protocol has is the Rainbow Bridge. This application included in the NEAR Protocol facilitates the instantaneous exchange of ETH tokens across the Ethereum and NEAR networks.
Tokens from Ethereum may be transferred to the NEAR Protocol by first being deposited into an Ethereum smart contract. Once these tokens are locked, NEAR’s platform will generate new tokens to represent them. Since the user’s original tokens are still stored in the smart contract, the procedure may be reversed if and when the user decides to get them back.
Is NEAR a Good Investment?
NEAR Protocol has recently shown a very high level of promise, and the current situation presents an excellent chance to go in headfirst and make some investments. Some factors that may affect your investment are Deals, partnerships between companies, and product debuts related to the NEAR protocol.
So your risk tolerance and the amount you want to invest are two conditions you must consider when deciding if the NEAR coin is a good investment.
