TD Credit Cards

The TD Canada Trust is one of the big five banks in Canada and the second largest. TD provides several Visa credit cards for students, personal use, and businesses, which allow cardholders to take advantage of great benefits.

Therefore, you'll likely find a card that fits your spending needs. They also have a significant partnership with Aeroplan, allowing you to earn plenty of points to redeem for travel.

Types of TD Canada Trust Credit Cards

TD offers a wide range of personal credit cards, from US dollar credit cards to travel rewards credit cards and everything in between. Each of their credit card offerings gives cardholders great rewards and perks.

There are 14 credit cards available. Ten are personal credit cards, while the remaining four cater to business owners.

TD also offers three co-branded credit cards affiliated with the Aeroplan loyalty program. Besides receiving Aeroplan benefits, you'll also earn great rewards with the Visa Infinite program.

TD Rewards Program

TD's rewards program with the most popular credit cards can benefit you. You'll earn a certain amount of TD Rewards Points whenever you use your card. This program is also available on the no annual fee TD Canada Trust credit card and not just the top-tier cards.

The TD Rewards Program is highly flexible. This means you have several ways to redeem your points. Your options include:

  • Merchandise from TD’s rewards catalogue
  • Gift cards from your preferred restaurants and retailers
  • Statement credits to pay down your credit card balances
  • Travel bookings through TD’s travel partners, allowing you to enjoy great discounts
  • Expedia bookings
  • Purchases at participating retail stores, including Zara and Indigo

TD Cash Back Rewards

TD offers two credit cards with this benefit if you prefer good old cashback rewards. One has an annual fee, and the other doesn't. You can earn 3% cashback on groceries and gas with the top-tier option. However, you only earn 1% cashback in these categories with the no annual fee credit card.

TD Partnerships

TD's leading partner is the Aeroplan loyalty program. A few credit cards earn Aeroplan points. This includes the following:

  • TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card – earn 2 points per $1 for eligible Air Canada purchases, 1.5 points for gas, dining, groceries, and travel. And 1.25 points for all other purchases.
  • TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card – earn 1.5 points for gas, groceries, and Air Canada purchases. 1 point for every 1 spent on everything else.
  • TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum Card – earn 1 point for groceries, gas, and Air Canada purchases. Also, for every $1.50 you spend on all other purchases, you’ll receive 1 point.

These cards also come with premium Visa benefits. For instance, the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card has Visa Infinite Privilege airport benefits. This includes priority security lanes at international and domestic checkpoints. The Visa Infinite program gives you exclusive access to curated event tickets, gourmet events, hotel benefits, and wine tasting experiences.

Pros and Cons of TD Canada Trust Credit Cards

Being a TD cardholder comes with great benefits. However, there are also downsides to TD Canada Trust credit cards.

The Pros of TD Credit Cards

  • No annual fee options are available. If you're looking to save on credit card fees, TD has two cards available with no annual fee. To top it all off, these cards earn cashback and points rewards.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance. The top-tier TD Canada Trust Credit Cards come with travel insurance. This includes auto rental collision/loss damage coverage and standard carrier travel accident insurance.
  • Flexible rewards program. You can redeem your points for anything, from gift cards and merchandise to travel and Expedia bookings.

The Cons of TD Credit Cards

  • Specific income required. Some TD Canada Trust Credit Cards require applicants to have a personal annual income of $60,000 or a domestic income of $100,000. This may limit your choices.
  • Low points value. The TD Rewards Points don't have as much value compared to other banks when converted into cash. For instance, the point value for booking travel with Expedia is $1 for every 200 points.
  • High cash redemption minimum. If you want to redeem your points for cash in your account, you must have earned 10,000 points.
