51% Attack

What is a 51% attack?

51% Attack Definition: The 51% attack refers to an attack by miners on a blockchain who control more than half, or 50% of the network’s mining hash rate. When this occurs, it can interrupt the recording of new blocks while preventing other minors from processing or completing blocks.

It’s difficult to historically alter blocks because they have already been coded into Bitcoin software as transactions. In most cases, a strong blockchain, such as Ethereum or Bitcoin, can withstand these attacks, though smaller networks are more susceptible to damage from 51% attacks.
