Difficulty Bomb

What is a difficulty bomb?

Difficulty Bomb Definition: A difficulty bomb is a situation that is expected to occur with Ethereum’s network when there is a sudden increase in mining challenges that happen during a proof-of-work update and ETH 2.0 release.

The difficulty bomb increases the processing time it takes to create or mine a new block on the Ethereum blockchain. This process is expected to result in a few changes, including the discouragement or decrease in blockchain forks, forcing node upgrades, and preventing centralization while creating new currencies and ownership.
