Aside from being a high-paying province in terms of wage rate, British Columbia also has a high standard of living. The average cost of living monthly in this province is a little shy of $3,000, whereas the lowest monthly income is just about $2,200.

To solve this issue, the British Columbia government hopes to increase this minimum wage further to about $18 per hour in the near future. There are a few workers that earn slightly above or below this rate in BC, and they are highlighted below.

• Resident Caretakers: They are paid a monthly salary for a building with about 9 to 60 suits – not a per-hour wage. The highest earned for this work in BC is about $5,000 monthly, and the lowest is $2,300.

Ontario minimum wage

The province lies in the east-central part of the country and borders the great lakes and the US. The minimum wage in this province was increased to $17.60 in October 2025.

The contribution of this province to the country’s GDP is quite high. Therefore, a further increase in the minimum wage, no matter how little, would improve the economy a great deal.

Quebec minimum wage

The consumer price index made a jump of 1.5% during the period that the minimum wage was increased. Critics emphasized that this 3.23% increase in the minimum wage was inadequate as the financial situation of workers was not improved by it. Thus, they recommend that the government review the rate.

Workers within Quebec who earn differently from the provincial minimum wage are as follows:

• Collectors: workers who collect (pick) coffee, raspberries, or strawberries are paid per kilogram. They earn a minimum of $1.21 per kg.
• Waiters and Bartenders: These workers make extra income on the tips they receive while earning the legislated provincial minimum wage. On average, these tips put their wage at about $0.60 higher than The legislated wage per hour.

Alberta minimum wage

Alberta was founded in 1905 and is located in the western part of Canada. This province is rich in mineral deposits, water resources (about 600 lakes), coniferous forests, rocky mountains, and more. The provincial minimum wage of Alberta was legislated at $15 per hour in 2019.

This Canadian minimum wage in Alberta was the peak in the country at the time. It was a decision of the NDP-led government. • Under-18 Students who work 28 hours Weekly: They are paid $13 hourly, which is $364 per week.
• Live-in Domestic Employees: These categories of workers are paid a monthly wage of $2,848 per month.

Manitoba minimum wage

Manitoba is located to the east of Ontario and west of Saskatchewan. It is rich in arable lands, mountains, rivers, and lakes. The Canadian minimum wage of Manitoba is $16.00 per hour, which is the second lowest of all provinces in the country. This rate was an increase of $0.50 from the previous rate.

Despite this low increase in the previous wage rate, some business owners refuse to abide by it. They claim that it might run down their businesses. However, others welcomed this development and recommended that the government raise this rate further.

The exceptions to this minimum wage in Manitoba are salespersons with flat rates and incentives and domestic workers who work less than 12 hours weekly. The latter is not entitled to payments. Others in the construction sector receive varying wage rates depending on the company that they work for.
