What is Unbounce?

Before we start this Unbounce review, we should explain what Unbounce is.

At its core, Unbounce is a landing page creator. Of course it provides a lot of other marketing tools that many people tend to overlook, which we’ll also cover in this Unbounce review. But its most-highly praised service is its landing page creator for websites.

Many business professionals and marketing gurus love how simple landing page creation becomes with Unbounce’s tools.

What is a Landing Page?

What is a “landing page”? To give you a thorough Unbounce review, we need to explain how landing pages work. A landing page is a webpage designed specifically with marketing and advertising campaigns in mind so customers “land” on it once they’ve clicked a link from advertisements, emails or other webpages.

There are two purposes of landing pages: the first is to obtain information from the customers who visit the site by offering them something in return for the information, such as a discount code and the second is to entice customers to click a link to go to another page where they can perform a task such as making a purchase.

If customers take any of these actions, it’s called a “conversion”, and a landing page is a great way to obtain higher conversion rates.

Unbounce History

Unbounce’s company history is important to discuss during this Unbounce review. It’s helpful to know not only how a company started, but how long they’ve been in business. This information can help you to decide whether you like their company environment, or feel like they’ve been in business long enough to gain esteem.

Unbounce was started in 2009. At the time, their team consisted of only six founders. The reason they created Unbounce stemmed from the frustration they felt when enduring long wait times for website developers to create landing pages each time they created a new marketing campaign.

It pre-dates many other landing page creation services, and many consider it to be something like the “original” landing page builder.

Unbounce’s Reputation

It’s important to discuss in this Unbounce review the sort of reputation that Unbounce has earned itself. This can help you to make an informed purchasing decision for your company, as well.

Since their launch in 2009, more than 15,000 different businesses use Unbounce to create their landing pages. Some of the businesses using Unbounce include Later, Zola, Canon, LinkedIn, Vodafone, Intuit, Amazon and Helix.

Because they pre-date other landing page builders and have a good reputation, they’re considered to be the leading landing page creation software.

Who Should Use Unbounce?

One of the questions you may have when reading this Unbounce review is “Is Unbounce a good fit for me?”. We’ll break down who can benefit the most from Unbounce.

Any business that is interested in creating landing pages that increase their conversion rates should use Unbounce. If you create multiple landing pages or want to update landing pages for different promotions, Unbounce is a good fit for you, as well.

Who should create landing pages? Any merchant or ecommerce marketer. Multiple landing pages can benefit merchants with multiple products or services.

Unbounce’s Landing Page Creation Tools

This wouldn’t be a good Unbounce review if we didn’t cover all of the tools that Unbounce offers for landing pages. Here are some of the features of Unbounce’s landing page builder:

  • Drag-and-Drop Builder Design: Many people love the simple drag-and-drop design of Unbounce’s landing page builder. You can create, delete, move and customize your landing page easily with just a few clicks, which makes landing page creation nearly effortless.
  • Templates: Another fan-favorite feature of Unbounce’s landing page builder is the large selection of templates at your disposal. Unbounce provides you with over 125 different landing page templates which you can customize. This is purely optional, as you can also create your landing page from scratch, but it’s nice to have the option.
  • Simple Cloning and Editing: If you’ve created one highly-successful landing page and want to clone that, edit and customize it to fit another style or another campaign Unbounce makes this process quite easy.
  • Copy and Paste Elements: Unbounce makes it simple to copy and paste elements in one landing page to another landing page.
  • Control Over Creation: Because you can drag, drop, clone, copy and paste each element of your landing page, you have complete control over the landing page you create.
  • Easy Publishing: Using Unbounce’s WordPress landing page plugin you can quickly publish landing pages to your WordPress site. You can also upload them to your custom domain.

To simplify these feature overviews for the purpose of this Unbounce review: the vast number of templates, drag-and-drop, copy and past, and cloning features of Unbounce make landing page creation a breeze.

Unbounce’s Other Tools and Features

This wouldn’t be a comprehensive Unbounce review if we didn’t let you know everything you can do with Unbounce. Here are some of the other Unbounce tools and features you can benefit from:

Sticky Bars and Pop-Ups

The first tool we’ll cover in this Unbounce review.

You can build your own pop-ups and sticky bars with Unbounce’s intuitive builder. Pop-ups and sticky bars are great for conversion rates, so this is a great marketing tool and Unbounce is definitely utilizing it.  Here are some of the features of the pop-up and sticky bar builder:

  • Drag-and-Drop Design: Just as with the landing page builder, the sticky bar and pop-up builder utilizes a drag-and-drop design to make sticky bar and pop-up building easier.
  • Templates: Again, just as with the landing page builder, you can choose from tons of templates on the sticky bar and pop-up builder, or create your pop-ups and sticky bars on your own without templates.
  • Choose Your Targets and Triggers: The sticky bar and pop-up builder allows you to choose which audience will view your pop-ups, as well as when they are triggered. You’re also able to change the content of the pop-ups and sticky bars depending on which keywords your visitors use for a customized experience for each visitor.
  • Scheduling:  Create campaign schedules so that your most recent promotions are displayed.
  • A/B Tests: This feature allows you to take messages and offers for a test drive to determine which ones will work the best for your sticky bars and pop-ups. (More on this feature further down in this Unbounce review.)

The tools included in the Unbounce sticky bar and pop-up creator are very intuitive and user-friendly so that even those who aren’t well-versed in technology can use it.

A/B Tests

One of the most important features listed in this Unbounce review is the A/B testing that Unbounce provides throughout the creation of your landing page.

How does A/B testing work? Essentially the tool will provide you with two different variations of design elements and will allow you to see which one is more effective.

If you’re using a landing page for sales or other conversions, this is a great tool to have at your disposal!

Reports and Analytics

Unbounce’s reports and analytics feature is one we would be remiss if we didn’t include in our Unbounce review.

The reports and analytics section of your Unbounce dashboard offer various statistics about your landing page and your pop-ups and sticky bar performance. It works even better when you integrate Google Analytics with it.

Once Google Analytics is integrated with Unbounce, you’ll have access to information about various user actions, like how often people are clicking on your Call To Actions (CTAs).

Dynamic Text

We’ll make this explanation as simple as possible for the purpose of this Unbounce review. When a user types keywords into a search engine to find your landing page, the landing page’s keywords will automatically change to meet the words they’ve searched to find the page.

Unbounce’s dynamic text replacement feature can be combined with Google Ads’ dynamic keyword insertion, which means that you can be paid per search and create content that changes to match users’ search keywords and intent. This will boost the relevance of your landing page and give you higher conversion numbers.

It’s easy to use the dynamic text feature in Unbounce. Just click the desired text and then click the “Dynamic Text” option that appears. You then have the option to define the text that your default text is replaced with.

Smart Traffic Tool

This is one of the cooler tools we discovered while writing this Unbounce review

Unbounce’s Smart Traffic tool is a conversion tool that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to check out the demographics of each visitor and then send them to the landing page most relevant to them.

The AI considers things such as which device they’re using and their location to determine which landing page version will be most effective for them.  Here are the key features of the Smart Traffic Tool:

  • Optimization Algorithm and Artificial Intelligence: The algorithm starts developing and the AI will start learning after only 50 visitors view your page.
  • Automated Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO): This feature allows for increased conversion rates, and you won’t even have to wait for tests to reach peak statistical significance.
  • Quick Results: You can use the Smart Traffic tool to test various aspects of your page and get results quickly.

Unbounce claims that the Smart Traffic tool can boost conversion rates by an average of 20%. As of the writing of this Unbounce review, we don’t know how accurate that statistic is, but if that claim is true then it would be incredible.

Accelerated Mobile Page (AMP) Landing Pages

As far as our research for this Unbounce review can determine, Unbounce seems to have been the first landing page creation service to include the option to include AMP landing pages. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) load more quickly for mobile visitors and can reduce load times to seconds. Here are some of the best attributes of the AMP landing page feature:

  • Create Your Own AMP Landing Pages: The AMP landing page feature allows you to develop AMP landing pages with little work on your part.
  • Templates: As with many other tools of Unbounce, the AMP landing page creator provides you with templates to customize, and gives you the option to create your own from scratch.
  • Updates to Keep your Page Current: Unbounce keeps your page up-to-date with updates and code to keep up with current AMP standards.

It can ordinarily be very hard to learn to create AMP landing pages. But that difficulty is removed with Unbounce, and it makes your AMP landing pages easy to optimize and test in a similar fashion to the tests and optimizations used throughout the platform.

Form Builder for Leads

The last Unbounce feature we’ll discuss in this Unbounce review is the form builder for leads. This allows you to generate leads on your page. This is a useful feature for any landing page, but the form isn’t as detailed as some other form builders.

Integration

One of the features that is alluring to many people is Unbounce’s option to integrate with 106 other services. Although this isn’t a major draw for some people, this Unbounce review wouldn’t be complete without at least one mention of these integration features because it’s so attractive to many people. Some of the services we discovered during this Unbounce review that Unbounce can integrate with include:

  • WordPress
  • Infusion Software
  • HubSpot
  • Zoho CRM
  • Constant Contact
  • AWeber
  • MailChimp
  • Campaign Monitor
  • Active Campaign
  • Salesforce
  • Zapier
  • Google Analytics

It can take some work to make the integrations work with the Unbounce software, and you may need to use more than one integration to obtain all of the information you want. However, the fact that you can integrate so many different types of services with the Unbounce software.

Security

Any business (online or otherwise) should be concerned about online security, which is why we felt it was important to list some of Unbounce’s security features in this Unbounce review. Here are some of the security features you can take advantage of:

  • SSL Encryption: SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption functions to protect your customers’ data by encrypting data sent from their web browser to the landing page.  Visitors to your landing page can tell that your landing page site is secure because it will display an icon that looks like a lock in their URL bar.
  • GDPR Compliant: Any website that follows the General Data Protection Regulation compliance guidelines is following guidelines set by the European Union (EU). These guidelines define the way that websites are allowed to collect and process the data of European users, and they are required to disclose certain data. If you don’t live in the EU, you may wonder how this will effect your website, and the answer is that being GDPR Compliant will signal to the visitors of your landing page website that it’s safe and accountable for the information it collects from visitors.
  • IP Filters: IP filters work to filter out IP addresses from certain locations for demographic reasons. It’s easy to determine the location of a user through their IP address, so you can set these filters to exclude entire countries if you wish. This will keep your conversion data accurate and ensure that only your target audience is viewing your landing page.
  • 2 Factor Authentication: This feature is exclusively for Unbounce users who choose the Accelerate subscription option. It requires information from two different devices for various high-security information. This ensures that even if someone knows your Unbounce password, they likely won’t be able to do things such as change your password or make unauthorized changes to your account.
  • Automatic Backups and Audit Logs: Again, this feature is only available to Unbounce Accelerate users. Audit logs typically keep track of information such as which username accessed the account, what actions were taken, and timestamps. Automatic backups mean that you won’t lose information, which always provides peace of mind.

Other Nice Features

There are a few features that Unbounce doesn’t really advertise as highly as some of their other features, but they’re still nice and this wouldn’t be a thorough Unbounce review if we skipped over them.

  • Countdown Timers: This is a relatively new Unbounce feature. Countdown timers allow you to implicate a sense of urgency on your landing page by declaring that the deals listed will expire after a certain amount of time.
  • Add-ons: Without paying for a more expensive subscription tier when you meet the limit of landing pages or sticky bars and pop-ups you’re allowed to create on your current tier, you can buy more in an a la carte fashion. This is an excellent, money-saving feature for many customers who don’t want to purchase the more expensive subscription plans.
  • Free Trial: Unbounce offers a 14-day free trial of their services, which is a nice feature. While reviewing services, this is always a feature that we look for. This means that you have the opportunity to try the service before buying it, and we were delighted to find in our research for this Unbounce review that they offer this feature.

How Much Does Unbounce Cost?

One of the most important questions we’ll answer in this Unbounce review is “How much does Unbounce cost?”. Like many other online software subscriptions, there are different tiers with varying prices.

  • Launch: $99/month, up to 500 conversions, up to 20,000 visitors, 1 domain
  • Optimize: $145/month, up to 1,000 conversions, up to 30,000 visitors, 5 domains, 30% more conversions with Smart Traffic
  • Accelerate: $240/month, up to 2,500 conversions, up to 50,000 visitors, 10 domains, 30% more conversions with Smart traffic

While Unbounce doesn’t entirely throttle their services on the cheapest tier, you will notice some differences with the more expensive subscription services. The biggest difference is in the number of domains, conversions and visitors you get.

The pricier subscription tiers allow for more domains, conversions and visitors and allow you to use their Smart Traffic feature, which isn’t available in the first subscription tier.

Unbounce Support

An important piece of information to provide in a thorough Unbounce review is information about the level of support they provide. No matter how good a piece of software is, you’ll eventually need help to solve some sort of technical problem or glitch, so good support can make or break the customer experience with a company. Here’s everything you need to know about Unbounce’s support features.

There’s a searchable Knowledge Base so that you can search for specific problems you’re encountering or questions you have. In addition, there’s also a forum and blog.  It can be a bit tricky to read through all of the articles to find the answer you’re searching for, but it can help you troubleshoot problems on your own without needing to call a support line.

They also have email, chat and phone support. Their support team is available Monday-Friday during normal business hours. They don’t indicate what time zone their business hours are observed in, however, so there’s a bit of guessing involved there.

There are video tutorials, which is a nice choice. However, the drawback here is that there is only one getting started video. But having videos that depict various creation aspects and how to use certain tools makes learning to use Unbounce a lot easier.

Their live chat support is quite quick. When you contact their live chat you will be told your queue position, which is nice because you’re not just indefinitely waiting. They’re also quite knowledgeable and able to answer your queries adequately so that your problems are resolved.

Pros of Unbounce

To help you decide whether Unbounce is right for you, this section of our Unbounce review will discuss some of the pros of Unbounce’s services. Here are some of Unbounces’s upsides:

  • Multiple support platforms
  • Landing page templates
  • Easy to use
  • Drag and drop

The first thing to mention in this part of the Unbounce review is that Unbounce provides multiple support platforms. There’s an email/help desk, an FAQ/Forum section, a software knowledge base, phone support, and chat support. Unbounce also provides multiple ways to learn how to use their software including live online webinars, videos and documents.

Another great feature to mention in this Unbounce review is that Ubounce provides templated landing pages that don’t look overly generic and has integration with other software and websites for more functionality.

It’s also so easy to use that any member of your team will be able to use it, which means you can delegate some of the landing page creation tasks on your list to other members of your team.

You also don’t need any coding knowledge to create landing pages with Unbounce. It uses an intuitively designed drag-and-drop system that makes building your page incredibly straightforward.

Cons of Unbounce

This wouldn’t be a fair and unbiased Unbounce review if we didn’t also discuss some of the cons and drawbacks of Unbounce’s services so that you can make an informed purchasing decision for your business. Here are some of the drawbacks to Unbounce:

  • Costly
  • Some small glitches

One of the biggest drawback to mention in this Unbounce review is pricing.

The price point for Unbounce’s subscription tiers can be enough to immediately turn many people off of their services.  With all of the analytics and test results, it’s also pretty easy to be overwhelmed by  all the numbers and data.

Unbounce will allow you to create a basic landing page, but if you want anything overly fancy you’ll need to hire a coder. It will also take time to learn how to use all of Unbounce’s different functions and analytics.

While writing this Unbounce review we also found that there are a few glitches with the software and it can take time to learn how to navigate it.

You don’t get the A/B tests or Smart Traffic features if you choose the cheapest subscription plan.

There are also visitor and conversion limits on each of the subscription plans.

Sure, Unbounce allows you to quickly create a landing page in theory, but to learn how to properly use all of the features that Unbounce provides it will take some time. This can be disappointing to some users who were lured in by Unbounce’s promise of quick landing page creation.

Alternatives to Unbounce

If you’ve read this Unbounce review and come to the conclusion that Unbounce may not be the best fit for you, don’t worry. As part of this unbiased Unbounce review, we’re going to provide you with alternative services to research or try.

Instapage

This is the first competitor to look at in this Unbounce review. Instapage starts at $99/month, which means they’re slightly more expensive than Unbounce’s base plan. However, you get more features with Instapage’s base subscription.

For $99/month you get customizable templates, AMP landing pages, robust form builders, integrations, Instablocks and Global blocks, and pixel-perfect design features. Their level of customization is on par with Unbounce. Instapage provides you with over 200 templates, which is at least 75 more than Unbounce. However they only have a little over 40 integrations, which is quite a bit lower than Unbounce’s 106.

Leadpages

A more budget friendly option to cover in this Unbounce review. Leadpages is more budget-friendly than Unbounce or Instapage because it starts at only $25. For that price you get unlimited lead pages, popups and alert bars. You have the option to create AMP landing pages, generate leads, and increase conversions. They offer A/B tests, as well at this price.

They provide you with over 200 templates, which is nice, as well. The downsides are that they provide only 40+ integrations, the custimization of their landing pages is less robust than Instapage or Unbounce, and that they only provide email support. However, they’re still a solid budget option.

Site123

Site123 is the ultimate budget option because they charge only $10.08/month. With their tools you’re able to create a landing page in under a minute. They have more than 70 different integrations, which is a mid-level range with more than Leadpages and Instapage, but less than Unbounce, and provide more templates than Unbounce (over 200).

They also provide you with a helpful “tour” to teach you how to use the tools included with their landing page builder. However, their landing page builder isn’t as customizable as Unbounce’s.

Furthermore, if you’re reading this Unbounce review looking for an alternative to Unbounce and you’re a WordPress user, you could check out Beaver Builder or Elementor. Both are excellent web page builders.

Elementor provides you with drag-and-drop customization elements that are similar to Unbounce, over 90 different widgets, pixel-perfect design and more.  Beaver Builder provides you with many custimization and editing options, integration with various themes and plugins, and is SEO Yoast-friendly.

Unbounce Review 5 - Comparewise

Unbounce Review Conclusion

So, what’s the final verdict of this Unbounce review? We feel comfortable suggesting Unbounce as a landing page builder along with other leaders in the industry.

It’s very easy to understand why many people consider it to be the industry-leader in landing page building software, they also have many years of business under their belt, a solid reputation, and some big names in the business industry on their client list.

There are a few drawbacks to Unbounce’s services that still need discussed in this Unbounce. If small businesses don’t see results from Unbounce within a month (which isn’t always long enough to see significant jumps in conversion rates), it may be more expensive than they’re comfortable paying for.

Even though it has an expensive price tag, using Unbounce doesn’t necessarily guarantee you won’t need to hire a coder to design a landing page for you if you want something more detailed or specific that they don’t offer. There’s definitely a learning curve to Unbounce’s tools, even though they offer various methods to teach you to use their tools.

Usually, if there’s more than one learning method offered by a company to teach you how to use their product, it’s complicated. And even though they advertise quick-and-easy landing page creation in as little as a day with their software, it will definitely take you more time to learn to use all of their tools, features and analytics.

However, the main takeaway from this Unbounce review should be that even though Unbounce has a few drawbacks, it’s still the most solid landing page builder on the market today. It’s normal to be wary about paying so much money for a service, but with Unbounce you get what you pay for. Many of the cheaper services aren’t as customizable, lack analytic features and don’t offer as many integrations.
