Find the perfect freelance services for your business - Claim this offer
A logical place to start any Fiverr review is with an explanation of what Fiverr is. Fiverr is a marketplace for freelancers. If you are a freelancer, you can sell your services on Fiverr, and if you’re looking to purchase services from a freelancer then Fiverr provides you a platform to do so.
When it was first launched in 2010, you could sell or purchase services for a mere “fiver”, or $5. This has since changed and sellers have been able to charge more for their services since 2015.
Services range from content creation, website design, blog articles, social media promotion, graphic design, and business card creation. Of course, as is the case with a free market micro-task blog, you can find some services that others would consider unethical to use.
These include things like buying fake likes and followers for social media accounts and fake reviews. These services may even violate the Terms of Service of social media platforms or online marketplaces.
During our research for this Fiverr review, we found out that you can pretty much find anything on Fiverr. You can pay someone to crank call your friends, pretend to be your significant other to make your ex jealous, make a cute video with puppets featuring your name, or write your name on their stomach and model it. So whether you’re a buyer or a freelancer, the services you can purchase or sell on Fiverr are limited only by your imagination.
You’re probably reading this Fiverr review and wondering if Fiverr is for you, and we’re going to tell you. If you’re a freelancer, Fiverr is a good platform to utilize and pick up some extra work. It’s a great way to meet and work with new clients from around the world. But the fact that Fiverr’s market is full of other freelancers offering up competitive rates means that Fiverr is more beneficial for the Buyers.
So the short answer to this question is that Fiverr is primarily geared toward clients or businesses who need help with projects or require assistance with something that they’re not skilled with.
If you’re reading this article and wondering what sort of services are sold on Fiverr’s marketplace, then there’s good news for you. As part of our comprehensive approach to this Fiverr review, we’re going to give you a look at some of the service categories.
Fiverr currently offers over 300 different types of services that are split up into these nine separate categories:
As you can tell by these categories, there are a lot of services covered by them and there are tons of subcategories. So basically, if you want something done, you’ll likely find it on Fiverr.
If you’re reading this Fiverr review, then you’re probably just as curious about the reputation of the business as you are about its services and features. Here’s what you need to know about Fiverr’s reputation:
Businesses such as MyHeritage, Unilever, L’oreal, 888.com, and Bytedance use Fiver’s paid subscription service, Fiverr Business to hire freelancers.
Say you’ve found a seller that appears to be offering services that you need at an affordable price. Is there a way to tell how experienced they are and if they’re running a successful business on Fiverr? There actually is, so we thought adding an explanation of the seller levels was an important addition to this Fiverr review.
Here are the Fiverr seller levels and what they mean:
New Seller: This is a freelancer that isn’t very experienced and is just starting out with Fiverr.
Level One Seller: Freelancers can only achieve this level after 60 days and the completion of 10 jobs with high satisfaction ratings.
Level Two Seller: Freelancers achieve this level after 120 days and 50 jobs completed with high satisfaction ratings that are delivered on time.
Top-Rated Seller: These freelancers have been on the site for 180 days and completed 100 or more orders, earned $20,000 or more, delivered all of their orders on time, and maintained high satisfaction ratings.
Of course, we feel it’s worth mentioning in our Fiverr review that seller levels aren’t necessarily a guarantee of quality services. A new seller could provide professional quality services that you like more than something you bought from a Top-Rated Seller.
It only means that they don’t have much experience on the site. This could mean that they aren’t completing jobs satisfactorily to achieve adequate ratings, but it could also simply mean that they recently signed up.
If you’ve read this far into the Fiverr review and taken the time to poke around the platform a bit, you’re probably wondering “What the heck is Fiverr Pro?”.
Fiverr Pro is a way to identify the best sellers on the site. This isn’t a service they can pay to receive, but rather is a title awarded to top-performing sellers on Fiverr. These sellers go through a verification and interview process before they’re awarded a Fiverr Pro account, which means they’re more thoroughly vetted than some of the other sellers on the site.
During our research of Fiverr Pro accounts for this Fiverr review, we found that the most notable distinction between a Fiverr Pro seller and other sellers is the ability to pay per milestone. This means that you can check in with the seller throughout the project and approve the work along the way.
You can find Fiverr Pro accounts by typing “Pro” in the search bar, clicking “Fiverr Pro” on the top section of the Home page, or looking for “Proverified” next to a seller’s name in the search results.
You’re probably reading this Fiverr review with skepticism when we tell you to check out the reviews on a seller’s profile. That’s fair. So many sites allow sellers to do things like buy reviews. But can you trust Fiverr’s reviews?
Sellers can only receive reviews from buyers after completing a gig, so in that sense they are legitimate.
But it’s easy enough for some sellers to buy reviews from people using other platforms like Facebook to get them. There’s also nothing to stop them from creating a separate buyer account and giving their seller account a five-star review in an attempt to attract more savvy buyers.
One of the tricks we learned while writing this Fiverr review was to check the date the seller joined to determine if these reviews are legitimate. If they just joined yesterday and they have 23 five-star reviews, it’s likely that those aren’t legitimate.
One of the most important parts of this Fiverr review is letting you know about all the features that buyers have access to. Here’s a look at just some of the benefits you’ll enjoy from Fiverr.
If you need a quick turnaround on a particular project then Fiverr is a good choice. When researching for this Fiverr review we found that many freelancers can produce work in 48 hours or less. But if you need it even faster, then you can find freelancers who offer the option to pay a little more for expedited services.
If you’re on the go, or in the middle of a meeting and have the idea to hire someone don’t worry. One of the best features Fiverr boasts is its mobile app, so we knew we needed to include it in our Fiverr review. You can get it on both Android and iOS so you can use it no matter which team you’re on. And the app is easy to navigate and use, as well.
This wouldn’t be a proper Fiverr review if we didn’t mention the fact that you can typically find services as cheap as they get on their platform. You can pay for and receive some solid professional services for only $5. If you’re looking for cheap services over quality and experience, look for new sellers.
Of course, that’s risky, but sometimes that’s the risk you take to fit your budget. To assuage some of that risk you can always message the seller and talk to them before hiring them to get an idea about their abilities and their degree of professionalism.
One of the first things we noticed when writing this Fiverr review is how easy it is to navigate their site. There’s no confusion about how to go about hiring a freelancer, or how to search for services.
One of the most unique features that we wanted to mention in this Fiverr review is the plethora of filters you can use when searching for freelancers. You don’t get these filters when you search for freelancers on Freelancer.com or Upwork (which are both other freelancer services).
If you’re looking for a content writer to help you with a particular project, you can use the filters to choose the tone, topic, and type of piece you’re looking for. These filters can narrow your search from thousands of freelancers down to under a hundred, which makes the task a lot easier.
One of the best features we found while writing this Fiverr review was the number of ways you’re provided to find freelancers. Of course, you can search through freelancers using the filters, and this is an excellent way to find freelancers. But there’s an even easier way. You can create custom job posts, as well.
Job post descriptions include a description of what you’re looking for with the option to attach files, the category and subcategory that this job falls under, how quickly you expect it to be completed once you place the order, and your budget for the service. Once you’ve posted it, all you need to do is wait for freelancers to bid on it and then choose the best one for the project. It’s that easy!
This was another feature that we knew we just HAD to include in our Fiverr review. Fiverr’s easy-to-read profiles make it easy to discern whether a freelancer is someone to be trusted. You have access to a portfolio of past work, the seller’s average response time, and reviews from people who have used their services. Because of this, it’s a good idea to really check out a seller’s profile.
If you find a well-presented profile with impeccable grammar and stellar reviews, it means you’ve found an attractive candidate choice. Lots of negative reviews, mistakes, and grammatical errors mean that this is a candidate you should pass on. And no matter what, you should talk to the seller before you start a contract to communicate your goals for the project and make sure they’re understood.
You’re probably reading this Fiverr review and wondering about one important area of any business’s services: their customer support. We’ll tell you everything you need to know.
You can use two different methods to contact Fiverr’s customer support: email and submitting a ticket through the Buyer Help Center. They will typically answer you back quickly, but that doesn’t always mean that their answers are helpful. This person reached out to customer support several times to test it out and only received a helpful response half of the time.
If you don’t get a helpful response from their customer support team, you should check out their Help Center. It’s full of useful tools like instructional videos, blogs, advice, and step-by-step tutorials. You can also find a forum where you can ask questions or read to see if your question has already been answered.
The most important question we can answer in this Fiverr review is “How much does it cost?”. The good news is that it’s free to create an account and use Fiverr. The only time you’re required to spend money is if you purchase a seller’s services.
You do have to pay a fee to Fiverr when you purchase services from a seller. It’s based on a percent of the total job cost and it’s quite reasonable. During research for this Fiverr review, we found that the fee is typical $2 for up to $40 gigs, and 5% for gigs more than $40.
You don’t have to do math or currency conversions because each job’s price is automatically displayed in the currency of your location. Fiverr also provides you with several types of payment methods to choose from, as well, such as Apple Pay, PayPal, and several major credit cards.
You pay for the services upfront and then Fiverr holds the payment in escrow until you approve the work that has been submitted. If you don’t like the work for some reason, you can either allow the freelancer to resubmit work or cancel the order. You have three days to respond and either approve the work or cancel the order. Otherwise, Fiverr will automatically release the funds to the freelancer.
If you’re reading this Fiverr review to find out about their paid subscription plan then don’t worry, we didn’t skip it. Fiverr has a paid subscription plan called Fiverr Business which is designed to make finding and hiring freelancers easier. It also allows businesses to manage projects that consist of a team of freelancers. It costs $149 per year.
It’s also worth noting that sellers pay a 20% fee to Fiverr on all their earnings.
If you read the previous section of our Fiverr review and found that Fiverr Business costs $149 per year and you’re not comfortable spending that sort of money on the services yet, then there’s good news. Fiverr offers a free trial of their Fiverr Business service for one year. (Or at least they are currently!)
You’re probably wondering whether people run scams on Fiverr, and in an effort to write an impartial and comprehensive Fiverr review, it’s our job to tell you that it’s possible.
Fiverr itself won’t scam you, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t dubious buyers and sellers on the platform. Fiverr simply acts as a middleman to put you in contact with sellers (or buyers if you’re a seller).
This means that whether you get scammed is up to you and the person you’re interacting with.
Up until this point of our Fiverr review, it may have sounded like a bit of a dice roll trying to find a legitimate seller on Fiverr, and to a degree it is. But there are a few things you can look for to avoid scams.
First, look for Sellers who have at least 100 different reviews that are rated 4 stars or more. It’s less likely that a Seller is a scammer when they’ve completed a substantial number of gigs on time and to the satisfaction of their clients.
Second, if you need a project completed in a certain amount of time, then it’s a good idea to avoid Sellers who have reviews about turning in late work. This is because these sellers have a probability of turning in work after the deadline, when you may no longer need it, and still requesting payment.
Third, if you have concerns or questions about a buyer or the gig, then read the FAQ section for the gig. If this doesn’t clear up any concerns you have, then reach out to the seller and shoot them a message. Oftentimes, communication can either ease your fears or confirm them.
Fourth, avoid any Seller who requests to meet in person to discuss the project. Because Fiverr is an online marketplace for freelancers, there’s absolutely no need to meet with a Seller in person. This is not only about convenience but also a safety feature for both Buyers and Sellers on the platform.
Fifth, remember to review your order within three days of submission. After a seller submits work, a buyer has three days to review it and either mark the gig as “complete” or tell the seller that the work isn’t up to your standards. If you don’t review it and you aren’t in contact with the seller during those three days, then Fiverr will automatically release the funds to the seller and mark the gig as “complete”.
We understand that it’s easy to get busy and forget. But during our research for this Fiverr review, we found that sellers would do things like finding a buyer to be unresponsive and then submit work that wasn’t complete so that they would receive funds after the three days, regardless of the fact that they hadn’t completed the work.
Sixth, don’t ever mark an order as “complete” prematurely. We found during research for this Fiverr review that some sellers would take advantage of inexperienced buyers and ask them to mark the project “complete” so the funds would be released to them. Of course, they promise to complete the project once this is done, but there’s no guarantee that they will so it’s not a good idea.
And lastly, never send a payment to a Seller on a different platform. If a seller asks you to pay them through something like PayPal rather than Fiverr, don’t go through with the contract. The escrow process can delay the payment of Sellers a great deal, but it’s in place so that both Sellers and Buyers are protected from scams.
As part of our comprehensive Fiverr review, we’re going to tell you which services on Fiverr you should outright avoid so that you aren’t scammed or disappointed.
Don’t choose a Seller who says they have skills and qualifications but provides no proof of said skills or qualifications on their profile. Professional Sellers list their qualifications and achievements proudly on their profiles, displaying them for all to see. They can also provide you with their past work through their portfolios, or files like Google Docs upon request.
If you’ve been wondering what happens if something goes wrong with an order, you’re in the right place. We feel like this is an important part of any Fiverr review because even though there are thousands of reputable sellers on Fiverr, sometimes orders fall through or don’t meet your expectations.
The first thing to keep in mind is that if a seller is late and doesn’t respond to you in 24 hours, you can cancel the order and ask for a refund. If a freelancer provides you with work that isn’t on par with what you asked for, then Fiverr has a Resolution Center to help mediate the dispute. If you can’t reach an agreement with the seller, then you should reach out to Customer Support to help with your issue.
You’ve probably been wondering about the cancellation process while reading this Fiverr review, which is why we’re going to include it.
First of all, you need to know that although you can cancel orders on Fiverr, you do have to have a good reason for doing so. You can’t do it just because you want to or because you changed your mind. Some good reasons to cancel an order include a buyer receiving work that isn’t complete, isn’t what they had discussed with the seller, or doesn’t meet the buyer’s expectations.
Similarly, a seller can cancel the order if a buyer is demanding additional services from them after they’ve completed the work they originally agreed to, or if the buyer becomes unresponsive to their messages about the project.
Typically there are two types of cancellation situations:
It’s worth noting that during cancellation disputes, Fiverr tends to prioritize the desires of the buyer over those of the seller.
You’ve likely read the other sections of this Fiverr review that discuss how to avoid getting scammed and worried that Fiverr isn’t safe. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Fiverr is designed with safety in mind. They have leading-edge data security, anti-fraud features, and secure data encryption, just to name a few of their safety features.
Fiverr not only has the padlock icon next to its URL but also has an “HTTPS” URL, rather than an “HTTP” address, which means it’s a verified secure website. It also has an SSL or Secured Socket Layer, which helps to protect private information and keep it safe. Not only does Fiverr offer secure servers, while doing research for this Fiverr review we found that Fiverr also promises not to provide your personal information to third-party businesses.
When you follow Fiverr’s rules and don’t use outside sources to make payments, then you can be sure that your payments are secure. Regardless of your payment method, they process it securely. And we found out during research for our Fiverr review that they’re a Level 1 PCI-DSS service provider, which means that they provide a high level of security for your payments.
If you use Fiverr as your only means to contact Fiverr sellers, then your communication is secure, as well.
One of the most interesting aspects of Fiverr’s security that we discovered during this Fiverr review is that they are compliant with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR. Compliance with this law means that you have complete control over your information and data. This means that you can access and delete any data or personal information that Fiverr has stored on their website.
Pros of Fiverr | Cons of Fiverr |
+ Access lots of talent + Hire quicker + Refine your search | – Fees for service – Customer support could be better – Need to avoid scams |
We aim to bring you a fair and unbiased Fiverr review. So in that spirit, we’ll let you know about the drawbacks of Fiverr, as well. Here are the drawbacks that Buyers on Fiverr face:
Fiverr’s Customer Support team isn’t always helpful. During the research phase of this Fiverr review, we found that it’s possible to reach out to Fiverr’s customer support and never receive a response from them. Of course, there are other helpful resources to help get answers to your questions, but a lack of response from customer support is quite annoying.
Because freelancers are required to pay 1/5 of their revenue in fees to Fiverr, they charge higher fees for their services.
Revisions are not generally free, which means that if you require several revisions it could really add up. Furthermore, freelancers have the option to not offer revisions at all. Other sellers offer package deals where you can pay a little extra to receive a certain number of revisions.
There’s a chance that the work you receive won’t meet your expectations. Even if you do thorough research and check the seller out, there’s no guarantee that their work will meet your standards.
Fiverr isn’t always cheap. Just because some services can be purchased for as little as $5 doesn’t mean that there aren’t jobs that cost hundreds, or even thousands of dollars.
There are lots of platforms out there that will allow you to purchase services from freelancers, but Fiverr is one of the best. Of course, while writing this Fiverr review we found lots of things indicating that sellers on Fiverr have the option to pull scams on buyers, but overall Fiverr is safe. And once you learn how to find a professional seller, you’ll likely find quality services at great rates.
